Kathryn Michele "Kate" Markgraf (born August 23, 1976), née Sobrero,〔(Sundhage names U.S. roster to face Germany on May 22 )〕 is a retired American professional soccer defender. She previously played for the Boston Breakers in the WUSA, the first women's professional soccer league in the United States, as well as for the United States women's national soccer team. She played three times at the Olympics and in three FIFA Women's World Cup final tournaments, in which the team finished in third place or higher.
==Early life==
Markgraf was born in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and attended Detroit Country Day School. At Detroit Country Day, she helped to guide the soccer team to the state title in 1991, scoring 16 goals and having 26 assists.
